The Benefits of Gardening on Mental Health

gardeningMy Second post is off on a complete tangent. This is a fascinating article written by Matt Chorley for the Independent newspaper on the benefits of gardening on mental health titled – ‘GPs devise new treatment to beat depression. It’s called gardening’
I think all us gardeners can testify how therapeutic spending a few hours in a flower bed can be. I also read a similar article recently saying that contact with soil and a specific soil bacteria, Mycobacterium vaccae, triggers the release of serotonin in our brain which increases our happiness. Very interesting stuff.
