Recent research revealed that the average shed owning Brit spends 72 hours a year in their garden shed. Many famous authors, musicians, artists have revealed how the garden shed has enabled their creative abilities. Playwright Arthur Miller and Musician Roger Waters being two famous examples.

1975 entries took part in the annual shed of the year competition organised by the readersheds.co.uk website.

The winner was the “Boat Roofed Shed” made by Alex Holland from Machynlleth in Wales. It is located the Cambrian mountain range in Mid Wales, 750 foot above sea level. It is made from recycled materials and has a fridge, gas cooker and a wood burner inside.
The winning shed was judged by tv presenters Sarah Benny and Kevin McCloud among others.
Alex revealed he was going to spend his prize money on a second hand wind turbine so he has enough electricity to make ice for his Gin and Tonics.
